About Cor Meibion Pontypridd

Formed in 1949, Cor Meibion Pontypridd has continued to provide an opportunity for eager male choristers to experience the unique atmosphere of strong Welsh Singing established by our forefathers in the last century. The old market town of Pontypridd is the birthplace of the Welsh National Anthem, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (Old Land of My Fathers).

Cor Meibion Pontypridd is renowned for its’ premier positions at the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales and the H.T.V. male choral competition. The present musical intention is to broaden and improve the repertoire in order to strive for the best musical standards possible and a wide ranging concert program.

The Choir performs an eclectic mix of musical styles ranging from shows and operas, spirituals, traditional as well as English and Welsh hymns form the choir’s wide-ranging repertoire.

International demand

The choir is in great demand for concert work both locally, throughout the UK and internationally visiting Poland, Northern Ireland, USA, Holland, France, Belgium and on numerous occasions, Germany.

In liederkranzlogoparticular, strong links have been forged with Liederkranz Oberensingen, a male choir from our twin town Nuertingen in Germany, and since the mid 60s many personal friendships have developed.

Our home at Tabor Hall

Tabor Hall, is our ‘home’, located in Vaughan Street, Pwllgwaun, Pontypridd, CF37 1HR.

As the name suggests, Tabor Hall was originally built as a place of worship, serving the believers of the Methodist faith for many years and the late Lord Tonypandy preached there on many occasions. The demise of the Christian worship at many chapels in the sixties and seventies resulted in the inevitable closure of Tabor Hall as a place of worship..

Choir Practice

Rehearsals are held every Tuesday and Friday, between 7:30pm and 9:00pm, held at Tabor Hall. Some 40 member choristers attend practices held under the musical directorship of our Musical Team, Johnathan Gulliford M.A., L.R.A.M., P.R.C.M., L.J.C.L. and accompanist Currently Vacant
